MOUNTAIN AND RIVER, FLOWER AND BIRD

Birds chitter tunelessly,
unseen in the trees.
Last night's rain
still dampens the gutter
as the road slopes down
to the daylillies blooming
in the ground between
where the sidewalks cross
and the corner.
